Riverside CA Taxman is moving over and making room for the newest in eating-dot games, Super Taxman 2. ST2 is described as a new improved version of the original TAXMAN.

Actually, it's a completely different version of the classic maze games. In this you are a little pie-shaped tax collector who has the unwanted job of collecting all the money dots while trying to save his skin from angry citizens. Sounds pretty easy right? Well not so fast! First, there are four brand new mazes instead of the traditional maze game. And as if that wasn't enough, in order to earn an extra man, you have to complete an ultra-fast challenge step (every three mazes). Of course, Brian Fitzgerald, the program writer, gave six energy points instead of the usual four.

Other features include a level selection that allows the player to select any of the ninety nine levels to be started and a pause feature. For the young at heart, Mr. Fitzgerald has given us five new cartoons and some hop music. The cartoons can be seen before the game and on different levels music on the other hand appears throughout the game. Finally, as in the Taxman, the Super Taxman option provides black and white / color. The graphics are very good, and the animation is practically flickering. The sound is an exact charcoal by Taxman.

Instructions are included in the game, they are short but sufficient. Controls are user-defined keyboards. No Apple joysticks here, but for you real game players, Gismo will be a cheap device that allows you to use an Atari joystick with ST2.

The challenge for Super Taxman is to use energy points wisely. It is not always easy to do when you have petty bourgeois in the tail. One strategy I found is to concentrate on ending the maze rather than trying to eat all citizens when they turn blue. Although maze chase games have been used too much, ST2 is a nice little game.
