When you think about all the different entertainment media available to us today, you really start to wonder how we survived just a few decades ago before the introduction of smart phones, super-fast internet connections and super-realistic video games.
Although many will argue that we are much better at living in the current state that we do, surrounded by electronics and social media, it does not deny that when things were simpler, life was also much simpler.
Given that you can't stop the time, but we should perhaps focus our attention on the pieces of technology - electronics, games and gadgets - that have taken on such an important role in our lives that we, quite simply, really struggle to live without.
The obvious choice here is to start talking about things like cell phones and Facebook, but they are more like distractions than genuine entertainment sources. You check your Facebook just to waste time, not to enjoy it!
Perhaps one of the most reliable sources of entertainment has always come in the form of video games. Whether you talk about playing on an Atari, a PC or even a PlayStation 4, the gaming media has always been a staple in our lives when it comes to home media and our long-standing joy.
Some genres of video games have been known to come and go, but when you focus on the styles of games that have gained popularity and kept us enthralled for the longest, you really struggle to get past simulator style games, especially flight simulator games that sell crazy good on PC.
All you have to do is look at one of the countless megafanist pages dedicated to the genre - the site I write for; Flight Sim Heaven - is perhaps one of the biggest, to be overwhelmed by how remarkably hot these titles have become among the modern players.
The mixture of mind-blowing realism and very specific attention to detail when strangely recreating all the aircraft featured in these games has instilled flight simulators as having the reputation of being a "pure" game.
Players who consider themselves traditional in the art of losing themselves in digital media are raising their voices loudly and proudly reinforcing the growing popularity of the simulator.
Younger generations are likely to agree with this and will routinely inject the features that come with their latest iPhones and tablets.
This is a generation but flowing out to their local electronics retailer to buy a new phone simply because it has a larger screen or a slightly more impressive camera; it's madness!
I don't believe in judging or diminishing anyone's thoughts and opinions, but these guys and girls couldn't be more wrong!
It is important to remember that while gadgets and pieces of nerd technology are extremely useful and fun, they do not provide us with the same long-lasting entertainment value as video games that flight simulators have proven to do over and over again over the decades.
When it comes to spending your hard-earned cash, it's up to you. From my own personal point of view, I think I should pick up the technology that offers me hundreds of hours of fun and joy that I will not need to update again in 3 months when a "new" model is released!
